what is the best and cost effective cables to connect an office server to a switch or hub???

Welcome to the forum zedister.

The cable needed depends on the demand on the server. At a minimum, I would recommend cat6 ethernet cable uplinking to a gigabit port on the switch. If the switch has two gigabit uplink ports and the server also has two, use both. If greater demand is on the server, you may want to use fiber optic cable but that requires a more expensive switch.

FYI: You should know that there are significant differences between switches and hubs. A hub is typically half-duplex meaning it can only send or receive date at any given time. A switch is called full-duplex which means it can send and receive data at the same time. This makes a significant difference in the overall speed of the device. A full-duplex switch will always outperform a half-duplex hub by about 400-500%
