I have tried to change my IP various times and it just won't do it. I called my internet provider and he said to just wait for the lease time and the IP will change. I waited and it did not change. I keep getting pinged by other people (I've been told they are using something called a shell). Is there anyway to protect against this? If so please let me know. As I cannot change my IP I would like to be able to protect against it.

people are pinging you, what kind of problems is it causing you?
if your router is replying to all the ping requests, maybe you can look into the possiblity of disabling that in the router sometimes its called ICMP |

The pinging is causing my internet to freeze or sometimes even shut off for a couple of minutes and how exactly would I disable it?

Ok huge issue. I disconnect my router and connect my modem directly to one of the computers then I reset my Modem and my IP is changed. When I connect my router back on, the IP turns back to the original. I have a Motorola SBVS220 Cable Modem and a Linksys wireless WRT54g. Help Please!!

That's perfectly normal with a typical home connection.
They are assigning you an IP based off of the MAC. If you want to have the same IP, you'll need to look into MAC spoofing. |
