I have to change my workstation's IP again and again in order to keep the internet working. When i change it the internet starts working for 5 or 10 minutes and then there is no browsing at all. I change the IP again and it starts working. Other PCs on the network dont seem to have this problem. Also when i download something through some software like IDM, the download keeps going while at the same time i cant browse at all. Can anyone help? Is there a problem in my browser?? i am using mozilla.

Sounds like malware messing with port 80.
Change your IP, surf the net until is goes out. When you can't surf anymore, try https://www.paypal.com or a different https site as that will use port 443. Check your download/upload speeds on our speed test page right after you change the IP. Then, after you can't surf, look in your download software and see if the speeds are still the same or slower. If they're slower, your network cable could be going bad. If the speeds are the same, then malware is probably the culprit. You can also try another browser just to troublehsoot. This will rule out a browser specific problem. |

Thx a lot for the reply. actually i have already tried a different browser (internet explorer). and the download speed is the same. Also i tried "https://www.paypal.com" but it did'nt work. If its a malare problem could you please suggest what should i do?

try running ad-aware which is free and can be found at www.lavasoft.com
also run malware bytes which is also free and can be found at www.malwarebytes.org Let me know the outcome after you run the programs above. |

I have tried Mcafee and MalwareBytes and found absolutely nothing
.However i have found that another colleague in the office is experiencing the same problem. Is something wrong with the network?? |

Well.....since someone else is experiencing the same problem, it could be something on the network vs. something on your computer.
Talk to the LAN Admin and see if both computers experiencing the same problem are plugged in to the same port bank on the router. That particular bank may be going bad. You can also try this....when you can't get to the net, ping 127.0.0.1 on your computer. If you get a response, your NIC is probably ok. If you get a good response on 127.0.0.1, then ping your DHCP servers IP address. You can find that by going to cmd and doing ipconfig /all and it'll be listed on one of the lines. If you cannot get to the net, but can ping the DHCP servers IP, then it could be a DNS issue. Your DNS server IP(s) will be listed in the ipconfig /all as well. When you can't get to the net, ping the DNS servers IP(s). If you get a response, ping google.com......if no response, ping one of Google's IPs which is 209.85.171.100. If you get a response from the IP, but not the name, then it's probably a DNS issue. BUT, the only problem with that theory is that all users on the same DNS would experience the problem....which most likely is everyone where you work. If it's a port bank on the router/switch then only the users plugged in to that port bank would be affected (approx. 8 users max). |
