Hi
I am trying to change or set my ip address. I'm wondering if I can even set it with Verizon Fios and a Belkin wireless internet router. To change my ip, I've been unplugging my router overnight. I am only worrying about the last 2 ip digits. My current ip is #.#.8.178. I am wondering if I can only change/set my last (4th)number. Thanks |

You'll most likely only be able to change the last set of numbers. Possibly the last 2 sets of numbers, but it really depends on how Verizon has their IPs allocated.

what happens when you unplug your router overnight? does that not work?
do you have a separate modem? is this a home or business connection? |

When I unplug it overnight, the ip changes. It is always something different.
I have a Belkin Wireless Router connected to the Fios Modem. This is a home connection. |

I am wondering if I can manually set the public IP address (the IP everyone sees).
I'm also wondering if Verizon Fios can change it for me, if I call. |

The short answer to being able to manually set your own IP is yes...but you'll have to make sure the address is in the right range and on the right subnet.
However, Verizon will almost certainly shut down your connection once they try to change your IP and can't. If you call them and ask for an entirely new IP address, they might require you to sign on for a business account. They have certain blocks of IPs allocated for certain services....so even if they do change the IP for you, it probably won't be much different than what you're already able to do via leaving the thing unplugged over night. |

There's also the chance that they are trying to assign the IP that you are manually grabbing, causing a conflict resulting in them shutting you off.
