Default Forcing My ISP to assign a new IP address

hello, ok I have a linksys WRT54G2V1 router, Im told that changing the MAC address in the router will fourc the ISP to assign a new IP address. I have the instructions written down, the instructions say "in the clone mac tab change the last number in the last box, for instance [74] to [75]" however when I go there the last box has a number & a letter [8E]. The instructions didn't cover this, what do I do? And Should I disconnect the other computer from the router?

A MAC address is Hexadecimal so it'll cover 0-9 and A-F. Any of those combinations should suffice.

I wouldn't worry about shutting it down or disconnecting it.

However, it would probably be helpful to disconnect your internet feed....then change the MAC....make sure the settings took.....then reconnect your internet feed to the router and see what happens.
