Hello, I am on Bell Sympatico's DSL line and able to change IP without issues (simply by reconnecting/connecting). I connect to internet via Linksys WRT310N router. I usually get IP address thats start with 72.29.xxx.xxx etc. I am wondering if there is any way i can force my ISP to think that i m a new client and switch me to a different server, where i might get IP like 69.xxx.xxx.xxx. I know Sympatico owns 69.xxx.xxx.xxx or such IP address because I used to have it. I dont know why it suddenly became 72.29.xxx.xxx, which is banned from a lot of places that I normally visit. I've tried changing my IPs thousand of times hoping to get a different block of IP address but no luck. I even tried changing service plan etc. Please advise. I am open to any suggestions. Much appreciated. Thanks a million. |

There could be a couple of reasons as to why you can no longer get a 69.x.x.x address. Sympatico may offer business accounts and knowing that their 72.29.x.x block is banned from a lot of places have reserved all of the 69.x.x.x addresses for businesses.
Or it could be they have recently started providing service in another area and gave the new area the 69.x.x.x addresses. Seems like if that were the case though they would've given them the 72.29.x.x addresses...so that's probably not the situation. Do they offer web hosting, mail hosting, etc.? Any online services like these need to come from and stay on clean IPs. Perhaps they've reserved the 69.x.x.x IPs for this situation. What I find most odd about this situation is that you're coming to us from an IP that's based in Hong Kong and starts with neither 72.29 nor 69. As a matter of fact, the entire block of IPs you're on is allocated to a provider in Hong Kong and that provider is not Sympatico. Are you a spammer hoping to get away with 1 post thinking the rest won't have to be moderated? You're not dealing with newbies here. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for a couple of days to give you time to respond. As with any new forum user, your posts will be moderated before showing up to the public or search engines. I suppose there's a slight chance you're coming to us through a proxy based in Hong Kong on that block of IPs. If I'm wrong, I apologize. |

Of course, the reason I am here is to get a better understanding and advice from PRO like you. otherwise, why am I here ?Btw, lets get into topic. Sympatico is also know as BELL (www.bell.ca). They are a major DSL ISP in Canada. I have no intention of spamming (otherwise, I would obtain exclusive/private proxies, we both know that). I am just trying to get a better understanding how this happen and how can i switch from servers to servers. I really hope I didnt cause any misunderstanding or trouble here. Thanks for your time. Much appreciated. |

Bananaman....no worries.
Seeing the IP from Hong Kong and knowing the ratio of legit users from that region to our board, I have to look out for the best interest of our users and the security of this forum. I'm sure you understand. Now that I'm certain you're legit.....you're in Hong Kong....get off this board and your computer and enjoy your vacation. ![]() My best guess would be that Sympatico/Bell has allocated the 69 block of IPs for some other resources. If they've allocated those IPs for business accounts and you upgrade to that service....chances are you'll get a static IP and that may or may not benefit your situation. The best thing to do might be to call them to see if any other blocks of IPs are available in your area. You can also alert them that the IPs in 72.29 block are banned from a lot of sites which you'd like to visit. They may or may not have monitoring software on their network and may or may not know IPs in that block are banned from certain places. Can you give me some specific sites you're banned from and perhaps why you think IPs in that block are banned in general? I've moved your username to a different group so you can PM me the web sites if you prefer. |

I second the idea of calling them and explaining the situation, but be prepared if they aren't helpful at all.
If they can't set you up, your only bet is to use proxies/VPN, or upgrade to a business connection if they will give you an IP in a different range... but that could be very expensive. |

Thanks for the prompt replies.
I've tried contacting them long before I reached this forum. No one seems to know what they are answering or what I am trying to do. I've even tried changing service plans (from normal high speed to ultra high speed - one of those types) but no luck, of course. I've read a few tutorials that you guys posted on this site such as MAC cloning etc. I guess those dont apply to my case then? Will they work, or am I just missing something? I believe the whole objective is to see if there are any ways to hope on to a different server and obtain a different IP, doesnt necessarily has to start with 69.xxx.xxx.xxx just anything beside what I have now. I dont know how I can do this. Please advise. I am open to suggestions. Thanks a million, once again. |

Yes...there are services out there where you can get a totally different IP address than the one you have.
The MAC cloning may not work in your situation if the only block of IPs your ISP is assigning are all in the same group....you'd end up getting a similar IP in other words. Ulitmately, that wouldn't help. From what I understand Hide My Ass is pretty popular. Even though you're not looking to be anonymous on the net, they offer a proxy service where the sites you visit will see you coming from an entirely different IP address than your own. There are also other free Proxy sites like Proxify. So basically you'll need either a Proxy service or a VPN service. You can Google those and read reviews etc. to see which service will work the best. |

Thanks for the prompt replies once again.
I guess I will have to look into one of those services now. Thank you very much once again. |

O also, while i am here.
I am using 4965AGN wireless card on my laptop. I was using "tech mac changer" to spoof my mac address the other day, and realized that nothing worked. (nothing changed). This is not my first time using mac changer, but first time on this card. I am just wondering if anyone is experiencing any problems with it. I am using Window XP btw. Thanks! |
