Default Changing Comcast IP by MAC Spoofing

I've got a question:

I'm currently looking for a way to change my IP address 5-10 times a day and I'm looking for a good way to do it.

I was thinking that by generating random MAC addresses and inputting them into my Router, and then resetting the modem I would get a new IP 9 times out of 10.

My question is whether or not this could get me in trouble if I were to try to do something like this. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also on a side note: Is power-cycling and DSL modem likely to get someone banned?

I'm sure you should be able to do this via a script and hopefully ClanMills can help out.

As far as getting caught and getting in trouble by our ISP, it is entirely possible that they will ban you.

yes I completely agree

I wouldn't do it, there are other ways to accomplish whatever it is you are trying to do.

I need a new IP address about 10 times a day. How would you suggest I do it?

Also a side note: I chatted with Comcast "Live Support" and asked if I was allowed to spoof the MAC and reset the router (in VERY plain english) and BOTH of the people I talked to said it's allowed. I took screenshots of both conversations. Think I'm safe?

You can use the following command, just replacing the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway with whatever you like:

Quote:
netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection" static 172.17.3.170 255.255.0.0 172.17.1.253 1
The best way is probably to put it in a .bat file so you can just edit that and then un it whenever you want.

No, I don't think you are. The only reasons I can think of for needing that many IP Addresses would be server functions, and a residential Comcast service wouldn't support it. You'd have to opt for business-class Comcast service. Or so I'd expect.

Thanks for the input everyone. I ordered Qwest today and I think that should be easier. I'm going to keep Comcast and Qwest, and use Qwest for anything that will put me at risk of losing service considering I use Comcast for net, tv, and phone.

Anyone got any scripts for getting a quick+new IP with the Q1000 Modem @ Qwest?

Thanks again everyone!

Read over the Qwest Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) very carefully. It's not my job to police these terms, but I am well aware that *some* reasons for IP "hopping" include actions that violate those terms.

It's also possible that rapid changing like you're describing could violate the one-IP-address limitation of most (though not all) residential ISP services.

Changing IP's like that ties up the IP Address for the duration of the DHCP lease. So even if you're doing legitimate work, you could run afoul of "causing network harm" clause that I know exists in BOTH the Qwest and the Comcast AUP's.
