Default Assign a static IP in Windows 2000, XP, or 2003

1. Click Start, Control Panel, and open Network Connections
2. Find and Right click on the active Local Area Connection and choose Properties
3. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
4. Click on Use the following IP address
5. Enter the IP you wish to assign (192.168.1.x)
6. Press Tab and the Subnet Mask section will populate with default numbers
7. Press Tab again and enter the gateway (usually the IP of the server or a router)
8. Press Tab once again and enter the DNS (usually the IP of the server or a router)
9. Hit OK as many times as necessary to get back to the desktop
10. Click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK
11. Type ipconfig at the prompt and hit enter
12. The IP information you entered should be displayed
