Hi all! It is my first visit to this forum and a truly hope someone can help me.
In the past I have been using ip2location.com to trace the origins of some of the emails I was getting. Not long ago, I got an email with what seemed like an invalid IP:6.0.3790.3959 Yet ip2location accepted it, for some reason changed it to 6.14.221.119 and sent me to Ft. Huachuca AZ. when I traced it. Here's the full link: www.ip2location.com/6.0.3790.3959 1. Can anyone verify my results and... 2. Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Thx in advance -dan |

I sent an email on the subject to sales@ip2location.com They didn't seem too happy with the results but they gave me a bit of useful info. It seems their s/w replaces the large numbers in IPs with the MOD(256) of the number, then the integer ratio of lrg.num/256 is used as a carry to the next IP number to the left.
I tried it; got a valid-looking IP that was NOT 6.14.221.119, but simmilar. I can dig it out, if there is interest. Sure enough, the new IP address took to the same place: Ft. Huachuca, AZ, USAISC! The question IS: Is someone hacking the military's Information Systems Command HQ computers? ...and if so, should I report it the Base Commander, Ft Huachuca, AZ., c/o U.S. President president@whitehouse.gov ?? Any thoughts, anyone?! c u -dan |

You should definitely report the incident....however, president@whitehouse.gov is not going to be the proper reporting channels.
You can contact the base operator at (520) 533-7111 and ask them to connect you to the Computer Security section....could also be referred to COMSEC. |
