This should be the last step in locking down your wireless. The default passwords for every router are available on the internet. Each brand of router uses similar settings, but usually there are some things that set them apart so a hacker can easily identify what brand you're using and then enter that default password to get in and change your settings. So, once you've got everything "locked down", change the admin/default password, test it out, and then sleep easy knowing the average neighbor or passer by can't get into your system. Brian |

Altough, you should always change your default password, but if you haven't changed it, you wont be at higher risk at home or small business enterprise(where only trusted users have access).
Because almost all of the routers have "remote administration / access to the web console" is disabled by default, so anybody knowing your public ip, and default password will still not be able to access it. |

Actually, by not changing your default password, you are at risk whether you're at home or work.
If someone is war driving and they pick up your wireless network, if your router accepts their connection and they get on your LAN, all they have to do is go to http://192.168.x.x (whatever IP your router is which will be the default gateway in the war drivers dhcp ip settings) they'll be able to login and change your router settings at will. If you don't have wireless, you don't have to worry about it. ![]() |

But I'm sure 90% of the world just know how to use a computer like going to myspace or website like that. But they clearly do not know what luke inside them.
