Merry Christmas, Jesse.

Here's an article I wrote about PortForwarding: http://clanmills.com/articles/portforwarding/

Rule 1: You can't test this from the LAN !
(Rule 0: Always put the modem into bridge mode)

I tested PortForwarding with a trip to the public library (closed on Christmas Day). However you can use the following to 'see' your website from outside:
http://browsershots.org/
or
https://browserlab.adobe.com

In your case, you seem to be redirecting to another site. Here's what I see on my Linux box and the Chrome browser:

Sharp eyed eagles will notice I have configured Linux to look like a Mac (another story).

Jesse

It's been a pleasure to work with you - and I look forward to more conversations. Well spotted - in some ways Linux is better than the Mac and Windows 7, in other ways - well it's still Unix.

It's a pity you didn't call me at home this afternoon (on the phone or Skype). I'm sure it would have saved some of your time.

Anyway - have fun with your family on Christmas Day. Speak to you soon.

sometimes you can hit your WAN IP from your LAN, sometimes you can't, I think it mostly depends on your router

for this reason, its good practice to test your external services through a proxy or a friend's VPN whenever possible

in my case, I'll log into my work VPN to test my connectivity, very convenient for me

Both my (identical twin) brother and myself have our domains and web sites hosted by JustHost.com and I'm very satisfied with their service and support. I bought a couple of add-ons (ssh and anonymous identity). A word for the wise, if you buy the minimum package, they'll make probably give you a 50% off first-year discount to sign up for extras.

If you click on this link and purchase their service, I get a $60 commission:
http://stats.justhost.com/track?cd6d...9390f9b23ed140

I'm sure you'll be happy. I wouldn't recommend a service I didn't use myself.
