Default Just another port forwarding thread, could use some help

Here is what I have going on.

ISP: Metrocast
My computer (XP) -> DGS-2208 switch -> WRT350N router -> HT502 phone adapter -> SB5101 modem -> the internet

There are also three other computers going that same route and a laptop bypassing the switch, then following the same route, but, AFAIK, mine is the only one with a static IP. There is an option in my router's interface to change the "Internet Connection Type" to static IP, but I'm guessing that's different than just changing your computer to a static one, right? Am I supposed to change both? I don't want to mess up the connections the other four computers have, though.

I've tried on many occasions to open a port, but was never successful. I always hear people saying on torrents, "Thanks, 1.5mb/s download speed!" I'm happy when I have 15kb/s...

I followed to guide exactly for my router, but, when I test to port, the result is always the same: not open.

I have uTorrent as an allow-all exception in my AVG firewall, but it still doesn't work, even if I disable the firewall altogether.

I have no idea what might be wrong.

Any help would be appreciated, and easy with the tech-speak, I don't have that much experience when it comes to networking.

Thanks.

Don't change the Internet Connection Type, you may cause other problems.

It sounds like you have a fairly straight-forward setup. Is uTorrent giving you errors or are you just suffering from slow download speeds?

I use vuze, and I always get "NAT OK" on the bottom (NAT is related to what you are talking about) and never had to forward any ports to my machine.

I am suffering from slow speeds, and sometimes it says I have a "bad listening port" on the bottom, sometimes it says (Like right now) no incoming connections, and sometimes it's a green check saying everything is working as it should, but when I check the port, it says it's not open, and my speeds are still slow. (From a healthy, well seeded torrent, any torrent, really.)

Thanks for replying.

Strange, I thought I replied to this, but there's no post... anyway:

I get a a lot of different things from uTorrent, sometimes it's a red circle saying something, I don't remember, but not a good thing. Right now it's a yellow triangle saying I have no incoming connections, and sometimes it's a green check saying my network is working as it should. Yet, when I check the port, it claims that it is not open or unreachable.

I found out that the phone adapter acts as a sort of router as well, and that I have to open a port through it. So I opened the same port as I did for the router, except for the IP I put in the router's IP, since that's what would be going into it, right? Well, after that, still no luck. Now I'm thinking maybe the switch is the same deal, but I don't know.

I get errors sometimes. EX: A red circle saying something that I don't remember, but not a good thing. Sometimes it's a yellow triangle saying I have no incoming connections (Like right now), and sometimes its a green check saying my network is working as it should, but my speeds are still slow and when I check, the port is still not open.

A step I took was opening the port on the HT502 using the router's IP (Since the router comes before in the chain), I hadn't thought of that before and thought that it would work, but it didn't.
