Default Unique way to ban a user

Hello. I'm an admin from an infamous forum and i'm just wondering if there's a way to truly block a computer from accessing a forum other than their ip's. I'm tired everytime people come to my forum to troll. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't want to say publicly how we ban, but you can email me at [email address removed].

So my inbox was getting pounded with emails from folks inquiring about other banning methods aside from IP addresses.

You really have to think about what you're wanting to do and drill down on that specific topic. Once you break it down, you'll have the answers. Think about how a user connects to your website/forum/etc. and what parameters are in that connection. Then think about what can be specific in that connection.

I am not the greatest at coding or understanding networking, so I am not sure I can decipher your last post. I would really like to know more about a strong unique banning method for my site. Thanks in advance.

You may have to mix it up by banning IPs, UserAgents, Country's, etc. All of this can be done in a .htaccess file.

I figured it was via .htaccess. I just help run a online gaming competition site and we have "ban" evaders running crazy. Most of them are banned because they were caught hacking so we are trying to figure out a good solution to minimize and thwart their attempts. As your site proves IPs are easy to change.

You might need to look at some sort of cookie setting and see if you can block based on that method.

Plus you may also consider banning all IPs in a particular group like 123.123.123.* instead of banning single IPs like 123.123.123.123. Usually if a person changes their IP the first 2 or 3 octets will remain the same.
