Default USB Port Output Power

Hi all, I am having USB 2.0 ports at the back of my computer. When i connect my MP3 player to it, the player displays "Insufficient power" but when connected to my friend's PC it works fine. I guess there is some problem with my USB port output. I heard that the output from USB 2.0 port will be 500mA. Is there any way i can check the output power of my USB port? Is it possible to have a new Port for my computer? Please help me...

You may need a new USB card to come up to the 2.0 version. Is your computer old?

Here's a card that will probably work but you'll need to check your PC specs first.

This Y cable might be a better choice. It allows you to take the power of 2 USB sockets from the back of your computer and harness that in to one.

a powered USB hub might do the trick, they usually come with a small power adapter

Some motherboards do not power all the USB ports. Certain Dell systems, for example, come with some powered ports and some unpowered ports.

Have you tried every USB port?
