So I received a couple of emails telling my my spouse is cheating. I have the IP Address that it came from and I know it was from at&T. I really need more info like the address or the owner name of this IP address. Is there anyway i can get it?. |

The most you'll be able to get is the city where the IP is from and even that's not 100% reliable.

A more complete answer is:
You probably don't have a right to the information, according to AT&T...which would be a correct view from a privacy standpoint. From a defamation standpoint, your spouse might have a claim. Tell him that someone is defaming him and that you want him to take up the issue with AT&T and the courts. The judge will give him a warrant and AT&T will have to tell you the person associated with that IP at that time. If it was someone with a fixed IP in their home, then you have valuable info. If it was someone who posted from an internet cafe which keeps no records of the posting person, then you are out of luck. So, can I have the international video rights for the look on his face when you tell him that someone is defaming him and you want him to clear up his good name? |
