So I'm a total idiot. I followed all the instructions to change my IP, but only after I completed the process did I realize that it wasn't meant for people getting their internet through a router. Now I don't know how to get the IP back, and my internet connection has been severed (I'm on a friend's laptop). What do I do to fix this? |

First step will be to make sure your Network Card is set to DHCP. You can follow the steps in the change IP instructions to get to the Network Card properties.
If it is not...make sure it is set to DHCP. At that point, you can then either reboot, or do an ipconfig /release and an ipconfig /renew. See our IP Command page to learn how to do this. Does your internet work after performing these steps? Let us know. |

Thanks for the response-- Internet works now on the laptop. It still doesn't go through my X-box however, which I had hooked up to my computer via internet sharing. I keep getting a message popping up that says "Local Area Connection- limited or no connectivity", which I assume has something to do with that problem. Am I still doing something wrong?

You'll probably have to turn ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on. It might have been disabled during the IP changing process.

I still get a "Limited or No Connectivity" connection for the Local Area Network on my laptop every time I try to sign in to X-Box Live, and internet sharing is still on. I'm getting wireless internet just fine, though. Anything else that could be causing this?

"Limited or No Connectivity" means your machine isn't finding a DHCP server
