I'm trying to tweak my home network, but something just isn't working properly.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

VPN router connected to ISP modem, and a wireless router connected through VPN router to provide wireless connectivity to various laptops, iPhones, PCs with wireless NICs, etc.

The VPN router is hosting a tunnel to a business network which runs AD and DNS which I need to access from wired and wireless nodes on my network.

Current setup:

Wireless router is connected from a "client" port (e.g. not the "Internet" port") to a "client" port on the VPN. VPN internet port is connected to modem.

DHCP relay is enabled inside the VPN router. Primary DNS in VPN is set to local DNS server, and an opendns box as secondary.

DHCP is enabled inside the wireless router. Same DNS settings are in place in the wireless router as in the VPN router (I believe this could be a key problem, but not sure what it should be set to...).

All wired machines are connected through VPN router, currently with static ip addresses assigned. They seem to be functioning properly for LAN and WAN connections.

Issue(s):

Wireless nodes (set to dhcp) connecting through wireless router seem to have no network access, although I can access both router interfaces through browser.

Pinging google from the wireless router results in 100% loss both by ip and name.

I'm hardly a networking guru, so there could be a glaring error here that I just don't see. I've been trying various configurations and tweaks with suggestions and input from various google searches and the router help pages with no success.

Does anybody have any suggestions or a simple explanation of how this setup should be configured? Perhaps I'm totally gone down the wrong track...

Thank you.

I have posted this on many other sites to no avail hopefully somebody on here can help.

Have looked at hundreds of posts cant find a fix, have done lots of tests so hopefully someone can understand them.

IPv4 connectivity: Local
IPv6 connectivity: Limited

When i diagnose i get 3 solutions, restart adapter, router or get new ip none work. restart router enables me to connect for a second though as stated before. if i diagnose with wireless i get no solutions just unknown reason, but if i just got my wired working id be happy

Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000)
2.4ghz Quadcore
2046GB ram

Full reinstall of windows is a last resort thing, i have ALOT of stuff on this pc 200gigs of it and no vista CD or way of backing it up :(

More stuff that sounds important, and bad

Ran a test it said:
(i)This adapter is configured to obatain an IP adress automatically. No DHCP server is present on the network. Windows selected an IP adress using Alternative Private IP Adressing.
(x)Ping gateway 0.0.0.0 : Failed
/!\ No DNS server is available for this connection
/!\ No WINS server is available for this connection
(x) Ping Network 0.0.0.0 : Failed

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
This step went fine.

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
This step couldnt reset echo request and said access denied, but the rest of it said ok!

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
None of this step worked because it had the same error as the ipv4 with the access denied but also it didnt do the rest as it said there was no specified settings to reset.

I definately ran it as admin, no idea why it said no permission.

However i reset my computer after doing all of them again and got the ipconfig /all . This is it:

I've been using whatismyip for quite some time now and it has never failed me. Recently I've switched over to Comcast HS Cable internet service (20mbps dynamic) and this annoyance started showing up. No matter what device I use to log onto whatismyip.com it would show the same exact IP (for example; 68.180.15.177). I've tried many online games that is connectable over IP, which all have failed to connect, so I can safely rule out that the IP is not of my of my NIC. Please help?

PS: I'm looked up on a netgear wireless/wired router.

I was a member of another particular forum, and had not been on there in a while. Well, I stopped going on it for a reason or two. I decided to come back briefly and signed up under a different user name. On my previous acct I always conducted at home. The new was done at my mothers in a different town 4 hours away. Well the administrators knew that I was the same person. How did they know that? It was two different IP addresses, so I am really baffled. Help!

Hello all,
long story short...
one of my sites got hacked from Moscow Russia, lots of porn links etc..

Well I banned that IP range from ftp to my site but now since my connection is Verizon DSL, my IP is somewhat dynamic. I need to check mine over a few weeks to establish a range to allow me to FTP and further limit hackers.

It "would be a nifty tool", if you had a mini-log for your users that would allow them to review the IP they log in here from for a period of say 30 days.:D

I sure could use it and just possibly there could be others as well.

Cordially,

No, I'm not a cowboy. But I tend to use that word when I greet someone, nonetheless.

I've worked at quite a few companies (including my current employer) where I was "The I.T. Guy." I would say I know quite a lot about a lot of things, but not so much about any one thing that I'd consider myself *the* expert on it. I actually got into I.T. by working customer service for Microsoft quite a few years back now (think Win95 launch). I think that's given me a "soft" view of I.T. that's rare in the biz, and saying so has earned me more than one of my past jobs.

I've been coming here to mostly use the IP Address Lookup tool, but decided to join the forum and have a look-see. Hopefully, if I have an issue, someone here can help, and if I see something with which I'm familiar, I'll toss in my couple of pennies' worth (1.2 cents after inflation).

Hello,

I was wondering if any certified techie guy or girl can help me out. :)

When I surf websites on the internet, I want to remain anonymous so websites I visit don't get hold of my IP. Otherwise, they'd start tracing my PC/laptop through my IP and then start sending me spam via their Windows 2000 IP Messaging feature.
Likewise, I want to remain, when I'm logging into my cPanel of my own website (supplied by a webhost) and also when I'm
uploading and downloading files to/from my website account (ftp server) via my ftp client.
I'll be experimenting with a lot of cgi and php scripts which may prove to be malicious at the end. I don't want such scripts tracing my IP from my web-server, ftp-server and then find their ways to my pc/laptop hdd. They might install spywares on my hdd or start sending spam from my pc/laptop. I hear a lot of web-scripts exist out there that when you install them on your hdd then they secretly start sending spam using your resources in the back-ground and get you in trouble with your ISP.

Also, when I log-in to my Paypal account, I want to remain anonymous from both Paypal and the recipients. Remain anonymous from the recipients so they don't get my IP and some-how hack into my pc/laptop and steal my Paypal password. And, remain anonymous from Paypal because if Paypal logs my IP and some-how hackers gain access to Paypal's servers and steal all their account holders personal details along with IPs then that would be very dangerous for us indeed. It won't be long before they hack into our HDDs too.

So, now you know my requirements.
Now, which type of anonymous proxy do you suggest I use ? Ftp Proxy ? Http Proxy ? Cgi Proxy ? Socks Proxy ? Any other ?
is there a type that has "multi" so it can become both the Http-Proxy (anonymous) and the FTP-Proxy (anonymous) ?
Also, do you suggest I install my own anonymous proxy software on my pc/laptop or use another web service on the internet ?
If you suggest the former then which softwares do you recommend and why them in particular but if you suggest the latter then which services (what are their web addresses ?) do you recommend and also why them in particular ?

Oh by the way, I have a Router and checking CMD-> IP Config it's showing an internal IP while whatismyip.com is showing my external.
Am I more safer than those who's CMD-> IP Config show their external IP ?
I mean, if a malicious website gets hold of my IP when I visit it then it would only get hold of my Router's IP and not my PCs/Laptop's IP on my Lan, right ? And, if they send/inject anything this way then the worst they can do is reach my Router and not my PCs and laptops on our Lan, right ?

Anything else I should know ?

Thanks :)

Regards

I need help with a network problem…

My laptop cannot assign data from my ISP after format and re-format.

I’ve my modem and router (belkin56g) connected -- wireless -- for each of my 2 laptops.

On the first laptop (HP HDX), Windows Vista SO, and I can connect to Internet perfectly.

On the second laptop (ASUS R2H), I’ve running Windows Vista and surf in the Internet without any problems. In the last week I’ve put the Windows 7 – (Format and new installation). Everything still running well, until I can’t connect to the Internet!
I can connect to my router by wireless, or internet cable, or USB NetLink - command ping “192.168.2.1” (four packets sent, four packets received) - but no Internet connection!

I’ve tried too many commands, such “netsh”; “ipconfig”; “reset”; “renew”; “winsock”; install drivers; format, re-format, reinstall Windows Vista by “restore disk-recovery disk” – (new installation), where I thing the issue can be resolved, but nothing… Also I’ve tried the connection by Ethernet cable (connection to router… after modem… and USB NetLink…) – I can’t connect to Internet now.

New partition, new format, XP – connected to network but… no Internet connection!
Yesterday I’ve install another time my “restore disk-recovery disk”, with the option from factory (2 partitions) from Asus with Windows Vista, but the problem continues. Is all the same! I’ve tried a Wireless Pen too, but the problem is that this laptop cannot assign data from my ISP. I don’t know why?

How it’s possible, after format and re-format?

-	My Device Manager is always OK.
